It's a shame that Mulligan (an extremely underrated director) didn't return to the fantastic more often; I think he would have been a perfect director for Ray Bradbury adaptations based on this film...

Terrific movie. Also features John Ritter in an early role! (He's good). Tryon also wrote HARVEST HOME, also made into an excellent (TV) Movie.

I haven't read the book but the film is original and creepy with a horrible surprise ending.The soundtrack is quite ominous and loved the New England landscape.
